I have been in many elevators and most times when strangers meet for these short trips, they will say a quick hello and then look into the mirrors. But it makes people uncomfortable to stare at each other so they look at the floor. Their eyes zoom into the shoes they are wearing and that tends to be offensive too so they will look at the ceiling. The best place to look when in that elevator tends to be above.
Let us make it a habit to look up to God every step of the way. When the going gets tough, look to God. When the bills are not paid, look to God. When you are out of options and ideas look to God. When the doctor gives you that bad verdict, look to God. When you find yourself at the start, look to God. When you find yourself at the end, look to God. In all things at all times, look unto God the creator of heaven and earth.
It doesn’t come natural to put our faith in God. When situations are freaking you out, the most natural response is to panic, scream and do whatever is possible to stay afloat while breathing. So we must remind ourselves to trust God. We must learn the habit of lifting our eyes unto the Lord. Don’t run to your uncle, your pension or your position. Run to God. The challenging situations of your life should grow your faith in God. Look beyond the obstacle and look unto God.
SCRIPTURE READING: Hebrews 12:1-2
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Dear God, grant me the grace to understand that these challenging situations in my life should grow my faith in you Lord. I look to you God the creator of heaven and earth. I am persuaded that every time my eyes focus unto you, all things work together for my good in Jesus’ Name. Amen
