Money has been a great motivator for many to do awesome things in life. The reward that comes in monetary terms simply makes business sense. Ministry rides on the wheels of money to the remotest places on the earth. But money is the wrong motive for ministry. Yes we need money to make life happen today yet if our focus in ministry is on the money, we lose the heart of God.

Many people shy away from ministry because they are not sure what kind of money they will make. Others run into ministry thinking there will be some quick money to take home. But those that serve through the test of time understand that money is only a facilitator not a motivator for ministry. Serve the Lord not for what you can get but rather for what you can give.

If then God so clothe the grass, which is today in the field, and tomorrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O ye of little faith? And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind. For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things. But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you. Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. Sell that ye have, and give alms; provide yourselves bags which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that faileth not, where no thief approacheth, neither moth corrupteth. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

Heavenly father, I thank you because I serve you not because of what I can get but because of what I can give. May I serve you through the test of time understanding that money is only a facilitator and not a motivator for ministry in Jesus’ name. Amen
