Peace is one of those things that the world can never give. The things of this world can never give peace even though they appear capable. The internal war in most hearts is far greater than the wars we see on the outside around us. Yet the Bible talks about the peace of God. Jesus was capable of sound sleep in the middle of a storm because of the God kind of peace. Peace is not the absence of a storm but in spite of it. Joy is of the heart while happiness is of the mind alone. Happiness is therefore temporal while peace and joy are eternal.
You draw on the peace of God by walking with God. If you know that you are not alone and are aware of the God who is with you, peace is not far. You take your eyes from the natural things and look in the spirit realm. Your peace therefore is initiated by spiritual things and not natural ones. You are always aware of what’s happening spiritually so what happens in the natural doesn’t take you by surprise. Walking with God in His word, prayer, worship and fellowship with the Holy Spirit means you are ever connected to what God is doing and not the world. Disconnect with the world and connect with God to enjoy everlasting peace.
SCRIPTURE READING: John 14:27
Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
Devotion Prayer: Dear God, Thank you for your peace that surpasses all human understanding. Teach me to draw on your peace by focusing on the spiritual things and not the natural. May I disconnect with the world and connect with your everlasting peace in Jesus’ name, Amen.
