FIRST AMONG THE FRUIT

The first battle among brothers was over first fruits. Cain has a harvest and gives God some of the fruit. His brother Abel has a similar harvest yet he doesn’t just give God some of the fruit, but the very first fruit. God accepts Abel’s sacrifice while rejecting Cain’s. Instead of repenting and mending his ways, Cain murders his brother and takes all the harvest for himself. By giving God the very first fruit, Abel was boldly declaring that God was number one in his life and the rest would fall in place. He was demonstrating his love, obedience and faith in the Lord. Cain decided to give some of the fruit but not the first fruit. He was declaring that he was in charge of his life, disobedient and walking by sight.

Release your faith by bringing God not just what you want but the very first fruit. It is commanded and expected by the Lord. Put God as number one in your life. Refuse to live by worry and anxiety but by faith. Your first fruit demonstrates the place that God has in your life and His blessing on the rest of what you do.

SCRIPTURE READING: Genesis 4:1-5

Now Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bore Cain, and said, “I have acquired a man from the LORD.” Then she bore again, this time his brother Abel. Now Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground. And in the process of time it came to pass that Cain brought an offering of the fruit of the ground to the LORD. Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat. And the LORD respected Abel and his offering, but He did not respect Cain and his offering. And Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell.

DEVOTION PRAYER: Dear God, I surrender my first fruit to you boldly declaring that your number one in my life. I refuse to live by worry and anxiety, I choose to live by faith in Jesus’ name, Amen.
