Daily Devotion

I was recently talking to a friend about life. She had graduated from university, worked a few jobs and was making progress in life. I told her she was all grown and becoming an excellent lady. Finally I asked, “how is life now that you are all grown?” she replied “growing up sucks!” You see, being a baby can be fun. People carry you around in their arms and are glad to spoil you. But they expect you to grow. After a few months they don’t want to carry you anymore. They set you down and you must learn to walk on your own.

After a few years you are no longer a child but an adult. Once you enter the twenties, life changes again as now you are an adult and they expect you to take care of yourself. They refuse to carry you about as a baby, they refuse to treat you like a child by demanding you become responsible. Come the thirties they begin to ask when you will settle down and have children of your own. Those that want to stay babies will say, “growing up sucks!”

It is not enough for you to be a child of God. You must grow into a son and after a while that is also not enough. You must become a father and start mentoring others. Yes even though you are a lady, you will be asked to do the fathering of others. As a father you say things the children may not want to hear. You teach, correct, disciple and mentor others. You make tough decisions that will have positive results for many. Refuse to stay stunted at the child level and grow into the awesome destiny upon your life.  Jesus was a given child who grew into a son and a father giving wonderful inheritance for all children of God.

SCRIPTURE READING:  Isaiah 9:6-7 For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of [His] government and peace [There will be]no end, Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, To order it and establish it with judgment and justice From that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.

DEVOTION PRAYER: Father am grateful because am no longer a child but an adult. I have to walk with you through this journey of maturity. As I become a father/mother, may I mentor my children into the right footsteps. Amen
