Talking to His disciples, Jesus called them the salt of the world. We all wish he had called us the sugar of the world. Salt isn’t tasty, desirable or even as attractive as sugar. Most people will tell you that they would rather have sugar than salt. Jesus was well informed about the two commodities but rather chose to model the Christian life after salt and not sugar. So your spouse may call you sugar and honey but remember you are the salt of the world.
Stop trying to be nice and accommodative to everyone. Refuse to be plainly sweet. Life needs that kick that comes from salt. Don’t just blend into a set mould, circling around life in an effort to avoid all conflict. You will end up nowhere doing nothing and totally unable to be of impact in your endeavours. I am not telling you to be mean, but rather be purposeful and that means choosing effectiveness over sweetness. Jesus calls you the salt of this world, embrace that call.
SCRIPTURE READING Matthew 5:13-16 “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all [who are] in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
DEVOTION PRAYER: Oh Lord, as the word says ‘I am the salt of the world’. Teach me to be submissive to this call Amen.
