During any festive season, people unreservedly, whole heartedly give themselves to the mood of the party, that they forget everything else that has been going on in their lives. They party like there is no tomorrow. They are happy about nothing, scream about anything that just chooses to happen. Obviously most are under the influence of something to make this a quick work. I am always impressed by the power of choice in such a situation. We become what we choose. Many times however, we wait for joy to choose us and get frustrated if it doesn’t.
The spirit of celebration, love and joy that surrounds the Christmas season shouldn’t be a one off every end of year. We shouldn’t wait for joy to come looking for us either. We can choose to be joyful in the Lord regardless of the circumstances. Be positive about everything. Look at the bright side of what is going on. God has allowed you to come this far in this situation and he will work if out for your good. Instead of complaining and bickering, choose to rejoice in all thing. The place of joy is one of peace, self-control, faith and great victory. Don’t let your joy disappear with the festive season. Stand in the joy of the Lord.
SCRIPTURE READING: Philippians 4:4-7 Rejoice in the Lord always delight, gladden yourselves in Him; again I say, Rejoice! Let all men know and perceive and recognize your unselfishness (your considerateness, your forbearing spirit). The Lord is near He is coming soon. Do not fret or have any anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in everything, by prayer and petition (definite requests), with thanksgiving, continue to make your wants known to God. And God’s peace shall be yours that tranquil state of a soul assured of its salvation through Christ, and so fearing nothing from God and being content with its earthly lot of whatever sort that is, that peace which transcends all understanding shall garrison and mount guard over your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
DEVOTION PRAYER: Today, I choose to stand in the joy of the lord. My heart is delighted in the lord’s goodness, amen.
