We generally do whatever it takes for the people we love and the things we love. I have seen many young men do whatever it takes to marry the young lady they love. The big things and even the small things are done for them that they love. I have seen strong, muscled and robust young men carry women’s handbags as they walk along with the lady they love. This love serves. It is not easy or natural for this young man to carry that handbag but they dig in and toughen up to serve their lover. Tough love serves. Babies love their families by smiling and looking cute. Mothers love their children by caring, cooking, cleaning and serving.
Serving Jesus is a demonstration of tough love. We could all sit on the sidelines and watch everyone else serve the Lord. We can all claim to love the Lord as long as we don’t have to do anything about it. Serving is tough and demands so much of us. But if we truly love the Lord, we must reach beyond ourselves and make a meaningful contribution of service to His kingdom. You cant be a healthy part of the family without doing a thing. You will stop growing spiritually when you get to a place where you stop serving. Yes it’s not comfortable and you will have to cry through some of it but love serves even when it is tough.
SCRIPTURE READING: Luke 15:1-5 Then all the tax collectors and the sinners drew near to Him to hear Him. And the Pharisees and scribes complained, saying, “This Man receives sinners and eats with them.” So He spoke this parable to them, saying: “What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which is lost until he finds it? And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing.
