FAITH NOT ASSUMPTION

Faith is one of those things that we must continuously talk about in this Christian walk. A good understanding of Faith and how it works will aid you to grow in life and in God. There are times people think they are walking in faith yet they are not. Some think it’s faith yet it’s stupidity. Others say it is faith yet it is assumption. We must therefore learn the different dynamics that make faith what it is. So, faith is basically believing something in your heart so much that you act upon it. Believing alone is not enough but must have corresponding actions to qualify it as faith. However, the faith of God starts with belief that must be based on something authentic. Faith that doesn’t have that kind of foundation is only assumption. Some people have done awesome things based on assumptions. But you must base your actions and faith on truth.

When it comes to your finances, your actions of faith should be based on the eternal truth of God’s word. This includes the written and spoken word of God. Don’t just do things because everyone else is doing them. Get the instruction of God and move according to that guidance. If your actions don’t have the strong foundation of the word you find yourself operating at an assumption level. God is not obligated to honour your assumptions. He is however eternally bound to His word. Many times you see individuals make life changing decisions based on an assumption and they call it faith. There are many things you can do because of an assumption but not as many based on the word of God. Let us grow to a place where we separate faith from assumption.

If you hold an account at a particular bank, you will walk through to the teller, present your cheque and draw some cash for your needs. There is no way you can walk to any random bank without a cheque and expect to make a withdrawal. One of my kids thought I could just walk into any bank and withdraw any amount of money at any time. That was an assumption based on experience because they had seen me do just that countless times. It took several years of growth for them to understand the concept and remove their assumptions. Sadly you see many adults make such assumptions when it comes to faith and finances. They think money will just rain down from heaven and that’s not how God works. Let us learn to separate faith from assumption.

SCRIPTURE READING: 2 Peter 1:2-4 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that [pertain] to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption [that is] in the world through lust.

DEVOTION PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I choose to enjoy a life of faith and not assumption, Amen.
