Daily Devotion

I love history and one of the best ways for me to relax is to settle into a nice couch with a good history book in my hands. Obviously the Bible is filled with lots of history and no doubt I enjoy reading it. However, faith is not a history less. Yes we can learn a lot from the past about God and how we can walk with Him in this life and the next. Faith is a Now Thing. Your walk with God will be influenced by the past but it is really about now and how we respond and connect with God now.

Many people have emphasised the future element of faith. Yes there is an absolutely beautiful future for the Child of God on the planet and beyond but faith is not locked away in the distant future. It takes what was promised in the future and clothes it with practical actions today that truly reflect the distant future and in a way creates the future we anticipate. Faith is a Now Thing!

Let us compress our understanding and appreciation of the past, together with our hope for tomorrow in a practical expression today so that we can reach into the past and the future and bring together in one glorious historic action with future ramifications a manifestation of our faith. Remember, Faith is a Now Thing!

SCRIPTURE READING: Hebrews 11:1-6 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a [good] testimony. By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible. By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, through which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts; and through it he being dead still speaks. By faith Enoch was taken away so that he did not see death, [ “and was not found, because God had taken him”]; for before he was taken he had this testimony, that he pleased God. But without faith [it is] impossible to please [Him,] for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and [that] He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

DEVOTION PRAYER: Dear God, I believe that faith is a now thing, amen.
