We have all heard about the law of the jungle. Basically this law says that everything is out there trying to eat whatever it can. While we think we are civilised and better than wild animals, I have seen the law of the jungle operate among humans with smooth ease that I think we should call it the law of the world. Anyway, I am reminded of this law because in life there are many things trying to choke and kill your faith. While you are working hard to become better, the world is doing whatever it can. To frustrate and discourage you at every turn and that is why you must deliberately protect your faith if you want it to grow.
Many people start out in faith but some how along the way their faith is choked and killed. Great faith must survive the challenges of life and that means you protect it. The world and the devil are out there trying to kill your faith. You must protect it with all your strength. Don’t just surrender to whatever pressures you. Faith that grows is faith that is protected. Don’t expose your faith to things you are not ready for and keep it the same way you would keep a delicate flower. What you protect will grow.
SCRIPTURE READING: Luke 8:5-18 “A sower went out to sow his seed. And as he sowed, some fell by the wayside; and it was trampled down, and the birds of the air devoured it. Some fell on rock; and as soon as it sprang up, it withered away because it lacked moisture. And some fell among thorns, and the thorns sprang up with it and choked it. But others fell on good ground, sprang up, and yielded a crop a hundredfold.” When He had said these things He cried, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear!” Then His disciples asked Him, saying, “What does this parable mean?” And He said, “To you it has been given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God, but to the rest [it is given] in parables, that [‘ Seeing they may not see,] [And hearing they may not understand.’] “Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. Those by the wayside are the ones who hear; then the devil comes and takes away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved. But the ones on the rock [are those] who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, who believe for a while and in time of temptation fall away. Now the ones [that] fell among thorns are those who, when they have heard, go out and are choked with cares, riches, and pleasures of life, and bring no fruit to maturity. But the ones [that] fell on the good ground are those who, having heard the word with a noble and good heart, keep [it] and bear fruit with patience. “No one, when he has lit a lamp, covers it with a vessel or puts [it] under a bed, but sets [it] on a lampstand, that those who enter may see the light. For nothing is secret that will not be revealed, nor [anything] hidden that will not be known and come to light. Therefore take heed how you hear. For whoever has, to him [more] will be given; and whoever does not have, even what he seems to have will be taken from him.”
DEVOTION PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I choose to protect my faith with Your word in Jesus name, amen.
