Life always presents shortcuts for those going places. Some how we see a route that appears easier to our destination. The devil is master at showing us a quicker, easier, less stressing alternative that promises to get us to the same conclusion. When it comes to paying the price, there is nothing as good as a promise that you will get what you want without having to pay the actual value.
The devil presented Jesus with the ultimate shortcut. Jesus had come to save humanity and basically take the world and all its kingdoms back to God. The devil`s proportion was simple. Bow down and worship me then I will give you everything you want, all the kingdoms of this world. This was a glorious shortcut. No preaching, suffering, teaching, miracles, fasting, fighting the Romans, the lawyers, humanity or any of that. Just worship the devil and you will be on your way. The end justifies the means? Obviously Jesus rejected that offer.
Taking the shortcut means that Jesus would not be the saviour of the world. The saviour needed to die. The process determines the product. There is just no way you can have gold that didn’t go throughthe fire. There is no forgiveness of sin without the shedding of blood. You should refuse the shortcut if you want to create a solid destiny. We are all tempted to take the easy way out but we should stick to the right thing. Even Jesus was tempted. This means He seriously considered the offer on hand but His heart refused to yield and He dedicated himself to pay the price. Refuse the short cut and pay the price for your destiny.
SCRIPTURE READING: Luke 4:5-8 Then the devil, taking Him up on a high mountain, showed Him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. And the devil said to Him, “All this authority I will give You, and their glory; for [this] has been delivered to me, and I give it to whomever I wish. Therefore, if You will worship before me, all will be Yours.” And Jesus answered and said to him, “Get behind Me, Satan! For it is written, [ ‘You shall worship the LORD your God, and Him only you shall serve.’]”
DEVOTION PRAYER: Dear God, I choose to live with the ultimate truth. I am Your child and shortcuts are not my style, amen.
