There is a high price to pay when entering a certain level. There is another price to pay if you want to stay at that level. Becoming a professional basketball player is not easy. Michael Jordan joined the NBA as a promising talent that worked hard to get there. After every season, most players would take several weeks off and go vacationing, relaxing and having fun. MJ never did that. At the end of every season he would go back to the gym and work his body into greater shape and strength. Even the years after he won the NBA championships, he would be in the gym working hard. And that is why he become the greatest of all time. He paid the price to stay at the top.
You must pay the price to stay relevant and effective in your field. It is not enough to know that you qualified twenty years ago. Things keep changing as the world gets better at everything we do. You can’t rely on whatever progress you think you made yesterday. Today presents new opportunities for you to get better and keep at the top your field. It is a different kind of price that you must pay. Entering your field doesn’t mean you can now relax and take it easy. You must pay another kind of price to stay at the top and relevant in an ever changing world.
SCRIPTURE READING: Proverbs 27:23-24 Be diligent to know the state of your flocks, [And] attend to your herds; For riches [are] not forever, Nor does a crown [endure] to all generations.
DEVOTION PRAYER: Dear God, teach me to pay this kind of price, hallelujah.
